Let me welcome you to the Food Science and Nutrition Department. Our goal is to prepare students for successful real-world opportunities. After learning the most current and complex sciences of nutrition, food science, or enology, graduates leave our department ready to take on the world!
The department is home to 11 tenure-track faculty and 5-7 part-time lecturers, each with specific talents and interests, and all with exceptional teaching skills. Our administrative staff provides an infinite variety of services that support faculty and students. Our staff has been recognized with the highest university awards.
The Food Science and Nutrition Department Office, located in Building 11, Room 244, is a Mecca for students, parents, faculty, and guests – where questions are answered, papers are routed, events are planned and managed, and FSN Department policies and procedures are implemented. We work hard on behalf of all of our constituencies. One visit will prove it. Stop by next time you're in the neighborhood. We look forward to meeting with you.
A successful academic program depends on many collaborators and friends. The Food Science and Nutrition Advisory Council serves so many purposes: assisting with curriculum decisions, helping with student and faculty recruitment, counseling about facilities, connecting us with others in business and social communities, and, most important, finding and developing funding sources.
All of our previous council members have been dedicated to Cal Poly because this may be their alma mater or because the reputation of the university is such that professionals in food science and nutrition fields accept appointments in order to be part of our unique programs. Members are leaders in industry, companies, trade organizations, and government/community agencies. Cal Poly faculty are to be commended for creating relationships with colleagues throughout the nation that benefit Cal Poly directly when these individuals agree to serve on the FSN Advisory Council.
